4.0 out of 5 stars Uses 3.5mm jack - USB provides power

Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on June 29, 2023

I was a little confused from the description and thought the sound signal was transmitted via the USB cable so I’d only have to plug the USB plug into my laptop. It turns out the sound signal goes to the speakers via a typical 3.5mm audio jack and the USB provides power to the speakers. I use a laptop and docking station and was hoping to simply have the speakers plugged into my docking station, instead I have to plug the jack into my laptop as well as have the USB plugged in. Overall I don’t need speakers often and they provide good sound and are low cost and I like the way they look so I’m keeping them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good enough for my basic needs

Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on April 18, 2023

I don't use my desktop computer for much by way of sound output (not really using it for streaming music or videos, and not a heavy use for gaming - that's what I do on my laptop). My desktop fills more utilitarian needs, but it's speakers were dying so I bought these.

They are quite basic and work well enough in that regard. I appreciate they are USB powered, though why they don't also do sound through the USB is weird. You have to plug in a USB cable for the power and an audio cable for the sound output.

A few downsides:

(1) The physical volume control is a rotating switch attached to the audio line. This means that to access it once everything is connected, you have to reach behind one of the speakers to use it. Since my speakers are placed to the back edge of my desk, this means that this switch is dangling off the back of my desk and inconvenient if not nearly impossible to reach -- so, I just set it to full volume and then use the system's software volume control. I'd much prefer for this sort of physical control to be ON the front of the speaker.

(2) The length of the wire connecting the two speakers is rather short. My desk isn't the largest, and yet I can't place the speakers to each back corner of the desk to put them the potential maximum distant apart that I'd like. The wiring is about a foot shorter than I'd like. My prior speakers had much longer wiring, though they were a much higher price when originally acquired than these.

(3) Being as these are so basic, there's no headphone jack on the speakers themselves (as I had on the speakers they are replacing). So if you want to use headphones, you'll need another solution and then, likely, software switch the output through your system controls to toggle between speaker or headphones. For me, not a big deal overall because I have a separate USB headset already for use in video conferencing though it's annoying to have to manually switch between the two in system settings.

Anyway, for the price there a reasonably good deal with generally good sound output for basic needs. Would NOT recommend if you wanted a solid surround-sound experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound but bright light

The speakers have clean and clear sound. In addition, they are easy to set up with the USB plug. The volume wheel is easy to use for manual control or you can use the keyboard or desktop volume controls.

The only annoying con is the glowing blue lights can not be turned off without unplugging the speakers. This might not be a problem for most people but my office is located in the bedroom. I need to unplug the speakers every night. A simple on/off button would be great for future models.

VINE VOICE

5.0 out of 5 stars They pack a punch!

Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on June 30, 2023

I purchased these for my older MacBook Pro computer when the internal speaker circuitry started buzzing and cracking. These inexpensive units from Amazon are amazing performers and a vast improvement over the Mac's speakers (even in the days when they were working) because what these little guys produce is a richer, fuller sound with excellent bass.

Since I don't travel much with this older computer, this is a much better solution to my predicament than having to crack open the MacBook Pro and mess around with circuits and wires in hopes of repairing it. Quite happy with these speakers...and they look pretty cool, too with their blue LED bands.

5.0 out of 5 stars These speakers sound amazing for the price

I bought these speakers to have an inexpensive way to get better audio from my laptop. They have thoroughly exceeded my expectations. They have a clean sound with plenty of volume. The bass is a little lacking, but that's not unexpected in small speakers. I don't usually write reviews on my purchases, but, from my perspective, if you're considering these speakers, I'd recommend you go for it. You're unlikely to be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice

When I got the speakers I plugged them to a regular outlet ( some reviews say that you can plug them to an outlet, which in my case it was closer than the computer USB plug) and I was very disappointed with the sound, then I read the instructions and actually plugged it to the COMPUTER USB and that's when the speakers actually worked the way they are supposed to. You have to plug them to the computer, not to an outlet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good basic speakers

These replace a Logitech set with sub woofers I have had for decades.

For the price, they are fine as I don't game with this computer.

Easy installation, except for couple small issues:

1. The speakers aren't labeled left or right and the directions don't mention it. The ad pictures do show the left speaker having two wires coming out, so that must be left.

2. The connecting wires could be longer.

3. Just set the volume to max the volume control is inconvenient to operate.

They look just fine and sound like speakers their size should as well.

Good for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value

Amazingly good sound from such small speakers. The volume control in the cord isn't the best placement, but if you use it to set a maximum volume then use the slider on your PC for day to day changes you won't know the difference. Well worth the price.
