Since Nikon does not provide cases for their lenses, I needed something to protect. These are well made, have a strap if you need and padded. The only issue is they could be a bit wider to accommodate the lens hood but otherwise, great! I bought 2 for my 24x70mm and 100-400mm.

It's a bit snug, so my hood has come off a few times as I pull the lens out. There's room for the camera-end to tip from side to side, since the camera-end of the lens is a lot narrower. You might want to tuck something in there to keep that narrow end in place if you're doing any kind of traveling where the case would get jostled a lot.
