4.0 out of 5 stars Air TV 2

In order to use this device you must use the sling app.

The Sling app will walk you thru the setup. I used the ethernet port to get the best connection ,for speed..

This device is a 2 channel tuner, which means that 2 people can watch TV at the same time. The DVR function is easy to use. Remember this device is for Local TV broadcast. I have the Sling app on the following devices, FireCube,Apple TV, MY iPad. The AirTV 2 integrates very nicely with the Sling App. As far how many channels you get It all depends on your location and how far away you are from he broadcast towers, and the type of tv antenna you buy, will determine the AirTV 2 performance . For me having one connection to the AirTv 2 antenna input save me a lot of time , not having to many run RG6 cables in my house. Also note that is some market areas you might have low power TV stations , that you might be on the fringe area of that low power station and you might not get that channel . this is not a problem with the AirTv 2. before you but this unit check with DTV Reception Maps. to see what channels you will get. For the price it is a good buy for functions you get.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Without Issues

Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on April 16, 2021

I cut the cable cord, and needed a way to get local channels into 3 TV’s around the house, two of which are old analog sets. After looking at the various ATSC tuners and their issues, the need for yet another remote control, Locast, which isn’t really free unless you’re okay with intentional disconnects every 15 minutes, etc I decided an AirTV with Roku was going to be my best option. I’ve had the AirTV in use now for two months, and I do think it was my best, although not perfect solution. I have an antenna in the attic and located the AirTV in the basement near my router so I could use a wired connection rather than rely on WiFi. The unit generally works as advertised. Getting the unit incorporated into my Sling subscription and the channels scanned took all of 5 minutes. I just had an old 500gig WD hard drive and external case laying around, so I connected that to the AirTV2 for the DVR function. It says I have anywhere from 40 hours to 160 hours of total storage, which seems to vary day to day on a whim. However the AirTV didn’t balk at the older drive. It formatted in just a few seconds, and has been doing everything I expect it to do. So far I haven’t needed to reboot the AirTV or the hard drive. As for some of the other complaints mentioned in other reviews, here’s what I’ve observed. I think the tuner really is less sensitive than the tuner inside a TV. When I first installed the unit, a couple channels would pixelate pretty frequently. They were fine on the TV tuner, however. I installed an amplifier on the antenna, and that cleared up. I’m only about 12 miles line-of-sight to the local transmitters, so I don’t know that I would count on this to work adequately with an indoor antenna unless you’re just down the road from the tower, but your results may vary. I also get the spinning wheel and momentary freeze occasionally, most frequently right before a commercial break hits. I suspect this actually has something to do on the transmitting end of the station, like a clocking glitch or bit rate change that the AirTV can’t handle instantaneously, but no way to know. I sometimes get a “frequent buffering” message on the screen telling me to check my internet connection, oftentimes even when there’s no visual issue with the picture. That may be the unit having trouble communicating with Sling’s servers, which it supposedly does, but I have gigabit internet up and down, so that’s just a guess. Also note that programs served from this unit’s DVR have no “resume” function. They’ll start from the beginning every time. So if you stop watching something you’ve DVR-ed on the AirTV2, make a mental note of where you left off so you can fast-forward when you want to finish watching. So overall, the AirTV has some issues, but I’ve learned to live with them. Given the issues the unit has, and that others report as well, it seems like it would be a better deal for maybe half the price. I bought mine from Amazon, and there was a $25 coupon included, that had an expiration date three months prior to my purchase. I submitted the coupon anyway, but never got the credit. Maybe try buying directly from AirTV to see if their $25 coupons aren’t outdated. Overall, this will save you the brain damage of switching between the tuner and HDMI inputs on your TV. Plus, it incorporates seamlessly into Sling’s on-screen TV guide that’s reliable and free, and you get a DVR function if you add a hard drive. The DVR function is maybe the biggest reason to purchase this, since it seems the best OTA programs are on in the middle of the night. Just be aware that the AirTV’s operation isn’t without flaws.

4.0 out of 5 stars AirTV

Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on July 13, 2023

Unfortunately, I spent 3 days trying to obtain the local channels in my area. No success. The product, I'm sure, would have worked if not for the antenna not being able to pick up the local networks. I do not hold onto items that don't work as it suggests, if it is making spend 3 days or more to get it to work for the purpose for what it was purchased for. I had a challenging time connecting wirelessly to my router.

NOTE: The other reviews on this device, don't believe. If you live in a suburban, retiree area where there's not a nearby antenna from your local t.v. station(s), good luck in trying to obtain any stations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Complex installation but works.

Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on April 2, 2023

Spent waaay too many hours getting the AirTV to work but now that it does it is great. Reduced a star fpr complexity and taking two devices.

The AirTV 2 has been a very "interesting" project. Have over 120 OTA channels and needed a way to record for later watching. Picked up on the AirTV2 because it had a coax (antenna) input_ and was inexpensive. Also helped that am a Sling subscriber since most access is through the app.

First one was from Amazon "used-good" group but turned out it was locked to an unknown e-mail (code A-444) and coul not be unlocked. Unfortumately had to go all of the way through setup before it failed. Returned.

So bought a new one for a few dollars more. Installation was abit complex with an Eternet access point, gigabit hub connected to AirTV, FireTV, and Chromebook with Sling APP (see pic, hub in behind AirTV). Part of my issue was trying to use the ethernet connection. Kept erroring on a WiFi error after skipping the wired vs wifi choice without allowing entry, But real problem was trying to use a Chromebook. Finally had to use my Galaxy cell phone for setup.

So finally got it connected and now not just the local TV but with all devices (Fire and Android TVs, Roku, cell phone can see the recordings under DVR (shows both Sling and AirTV) recordings and storage (250GB SSD is good for 20 hours) and now can record the many OTA channels, many in English, my outside antenna can receive.

Do plan to simplify the installation but for now, it works and can check each stage.
